After a successful career in industry, former Marine Staff Sergeant Ron Person began his theatrical career in 1976. Ron began his career as the Assistant Technical Director at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
In 1977 he became Facility Stage Manager at the University of Illinois-Assembly Hall where he remained until returning to the Krannert Center as Events Manager in 1980. In 1981 he became Assistant Director and in 1982 added Marketing to his duties. In 1984 he became Director, leaving in 1986.
After 10 years of mid-west winters, Ron headed for a warmer climate and became Director of the Performing Arts Center at the University of Texas in 1986. In August 1988 he became Associate Director of the Koger Center and became Director in April 1989.
Ron holds a BA degree from Maryville College, Tennessee and an MA in Technical Theatre from the University of Kentucky. He has extensive experience in all aspects of technical theatre and has been Director of three musicals and nine plays, Lighting Designer for seven musicals and 21 plays, and Scenic Designer for one musical and seven straight plays. Additional, Ron is recognized as a fine teacher and has taught courses in Technical Direction, Arts Administration and Facilities Management at graduate and undergraduate levels.
